this is the book my priest requires for my catechism lessons and it's very clear and concise in its explanation of the faith, with some wit and humor thrown in, but always with the proper reverence and respect for the subject matter. this isn't a very in-depth explanation of orthodoxy (for that, i would recommend something like "welcome to the orthodox church" by frederica mathewes-green.) this is more of a "basic instruction manual" for someone wishing to convert to orthodoxy. all of the basic and most important topics are covered. there isn't much elaboration on the topics, just enough to properly inform the reader and no more. nothing extraneous and no overly-long or unnecessary material. it's a book for students learning the faith, not for someone who already knows a great deal about orthodoxy.
This book addresses common beliefs, topics, traditions, etc. in Orthodoxy. Great read and reference for newcomers to Orthodoxy
Good introduction to Eastern Orthodoxy, highly readable. Recommend for the toe-dipping potential convert.
I ordered this at the recommendation of our Orthodox parish priest - we are using it in our adult education classes. It is very well written - clear and concise.
I really like how this book takes all the parts of orthodoxy and puts them in quick reference, segments. It's easy to see what they believe on different topics this way. I also like the beliefs being explained. It's encouraging.
A great introduction for those interested in Orthodoxy or one who is a catechumen. Could have given a little more instruction on the basics of church procedures during a liturgy but all-in-all, a great book.
