This is a great guide book. I purchased one back in 1995. I got a patent pending out of using the advise from it on my own. I followed the drawing instructions and my drawing pasted the on the first submission. I was late on resubmitting my claim. I latter learn the patent examiner can help you with this. The new one much better. If you are even thinking of patenting a device purchase this book. If you plan on getting help this book will know the scams. Oh if you think you are going to get rich quick of not bother to file. And research the market before you get too involved. Search the patent and check the market first. Good luck! I am being contacted by Invent help now. But I am very carful.
this is an excellent book for people thinking about patenting their ideas by themselves. patent attorneys can charge up to $10,000 just to get you a patent, not to get your invention sold.with this book, it gives you everything you need to know from A to Z, from soup to nuts about patenting your inventions.I do highly recommend this book even though it's kind of pricey. It is well worth the small investment.
An excellent book for the pro-se inventor or anyone who wants to understand the U.S. Patenting procedure especially after the recent rules change. Very comprehensive and clear to understand. Even if you choose to employ a patent attorney or agent, this will be valuable and will probably save you some money.
I own an older version of this text but bought this one to keep up to date. A must-read for anyone writing their own patents. I have been awarded 4 out of 6 US utility patents I wrote. The other 2 are still in process. You must be patient, work hard, and be determined. Even if you decide to use an attorney, its good to understand the process and what a patent can and cannot do for you.
Still nearly impossible to write a proper utility patent by yourself. The book merely shows how intricate the process is and the nuances it takes to file a valid and defendable patent.If anything, it convinced me to hire an attorney instead of trying to file myself.Nolo has great legal books, but this particular one won't help you become a patent attorney.
You should not patent it yourself. But, you should definitely buy and read this book. It is an excellent source of vital info that you need to know. It leads you through the processes, questions, and important decisions that every inventor needs to know about in order to be a better inventor. Key invention concepts include: obviousness, prior art, claims development, foreign versus U.S. legal deadlines, provisional vs. regular patent application, and much much more. One of tne major obstacles to getting a patent is the requirement that an invention not be "obvious". This one requirement has torpedoed a lot of potential inventions, so be sure you read about this in the book. Also, the book explains about the careful legal path you need to navigate to avoid damaging your foreign patent potential. You should buy the latest edition of this book because it will include info about the change in U.S. patent law. The U.S. Patent system now is "first to file", NOT "first to invent" which brings the U.S. in synch with most other foreign patent systems. One final thing, be careful you don't get arthritis in your finger joints from counting all the hundred-dollar bills you get from licensing or selling your successful invention!
This book has put at ease a LOT of my fears about patenting my idea. It's answered a lot of questions and gave good strategic guidance for marketing as well (a happy bonus). I just wish it were easier on kindle when using their forms when I had to look at their example documents or view their template to follow. Nevertheless, I'm glad they have provided this book with its resources.
